1909 Silver Cigar Ashtray

A rare Edwardian silver Cigar Ashtray of oblong form, one side with two pierced sections for hanging it up in a car. The hinged top consists of four curved sections used to hold cigars. Hallmarked for London 1909, with the mark of A&Cofor Asprey & Co, also inscribed ‘Asprey, Bond St’. 6.5cm high, 11.5cm wide. This rare Cigar Ashtray would have been made for use in a Rolls Royce or other car of similar stature.  It would have hooked onto the back of a seat. Aspreyshave been selling high quality items at their New Bond Street store since 1847, advertising ‘articles of exclusive design and high quality, whether for personal adornment or personal accompaniment, and to endow with richness and beauty the tables and homes of people of refinement and discernment’.
