SOLD – 1947 Rolex Ovettone Rose Gold Ref. 4467 With Certificate

Out of stock

Presented in honest original condition, this rare 36mm Rolex Oyster Perpetual Certified Chronometer is referred to as the “Ovettone” by collectors, which translates to “Big Egg”. This is due to the large case size (for the time) and domed or bubble back which housed the early automatic movement. This example features its original eggshell white dial which remains in very good condition with some signs of age, and has its original “roulette” red and black date wheel. The 18k solid rose gold case is also in very good condition and does not appear to have been recently polished. The inside case back has various service marks which means that the watch has been well maintained over the years. The watch also features its original Rolex Oyster crown. The watch is fitted with a Rolex alligator strap and 18k solid gold Rolex pin buckle from the period.

The watch it comes with its original Rolex Chronometer Certificate which is rarely seen for a watch from this period. The Chronometer Certitifate is dated 24th November 1947 and issued by the “Bureaux officiels de Contrôle de la marche des montres” located in Bienne. The movement number and case serial number both correspond with the numbers on the certificate. Furthermore the Chronometer Certificate comes inside the original retailers envelope named Harry Le-Moine, 18 King William Street, Blackburn. Harry Le-Moine Jewellers were well established in Lancashire and known throughout England. First established in 1893, they moved their shop to 18 King William Street in Blackburn just after the First World War.

Complimented by its provenance and rarity, this timepiece would be an excellent addition to any collection.
