This Tudor Snowlfake Submariner reference 7016/0 dates to 1969 and features its original blue/black dial showing signs of age referred to as a “bubble” dial. This is a defect often found with these early Snowflake dials and in typical Rolex fashion has now become admired and sought-after by collectors. This example has a “Swiss Only” dial which correct for this year and also features the “Meters First” depth designation.

The luminous on the dial appears original and shows a nice “Pumpkin” patina. The hands are original with the luminous patina matches closely to the dial. The bezel insert has aged to form a nice grey colour which is referred to by collectors as a “ghost” bezel. The bezel pip has also aged nicely consistent with the dial and bezel insert.
The iconic Submariner stainless steel case appears unpolished with defined chamfered lugs and overall sharp. The diameter measures 40mm case and features its original Rolex screw-down crown. The serial number 741,xxx corresponds with the year of production dating the watch to 1969.

The movement that powers this Tudor Submariner is the robust automatic ETA Calibre 2483, which is clean and fully functioning. The 7016/0 was one of the first Tudor references to adopt the ETA Calibre 2483 and was the successor to the earlier Fleurier cal. 390 movement. The movement is original and signed Tudor Auto-Prince. Inside case back is signed Montres Tudor S.A and dated IV.68 (fourth quarter of 1968) which is correct for a watch officially produced as a complete watch the year after in 1969. The watch is fitted to a Rolex Oyster folded link bracelet ref. 7836 with 282 end links and dated 2/72. The bracelet is in very good condition with light scratches and signs of use and is from a slightly later period to the watch. The watch is complimented by an additional Erikas Original Tudor M.N. strap.
The watch is accompanied by a Tudor box from the period.

Overall, this is a great original example of the first non-date Snowflake Submariner produced, showing honest signs of age that appeals to collectors of this model.
