SOLD – 1975 Rolex Submariner “Single Red” Ref. 1680

Out of stock

The 1680 “Single Red” were the first Submariners to feature the date function and were produced between 1969-1975. This example features its original matte dial in excellent condition. This dial type is referred to as the “Mark VI” dial which corresponds with the 3,68x,xxx serial number and is the last dial variation of the Single Red Submariners. The tritium on the dial and hands are original with the hands a showing slightly darker patina, which is often seen. The serial number corresponds with the original Rolex hole punched guarantee paperwork showing the sale of the watch in 1975 by retailers Guillon, Paris.

The case is in excellent condition and has been professional polished with defined chamfered lugs. The bezel insert appears to be original and has nicely faded to blue/grey hue adding to the character of the watch. The bezel pip was replaced during service. To add to the overall originality of this watch it comes with its original Rolex folded link bracelet reference 9315 with 380 end links, which has been polished but has some wear. The watch is fitted with (photographed on) a later service Submariner bracelet reference 93150, which is in excellent condition. The cal. 1575 (base cal. 1570) automatic movement has been fully serviced by a Rolex authorised watchmaker and comes with eighteen-month warranty.

Overall, this is a great example of highly sought-after collectors watch. The overall originality and character is what makes this watch such a rare example together with the fact it is accompanied by its original box, Submariner Triplock swing tag and guarantee which many from this period do not have. This is one not to miss and lovely addition to any collection.
