Rare Rolex Wooden Trunk Circa 1975
Rare Rolex trunk, believed to have been made to transport Rolex Oyster display stands to authorised retailers around the world. These special display stands were made at the time to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Rolex Oyster model. This particular trunk retains the original documentation instructions attached on the inside lid of the trunk. The instructions are in German so could have been specifically for a Rolex retailer in Germany or Switzerland. Very few examples of these trunks are known especially with documentation still attached and original key. The trunks were made in England and crafted in wood and “Fibre Garant”. It has C.W.Cheney & Sons locks and keys. C.W.Cheney & Sons were a lock manufacturer which produced several types of high quality locks for suitcases and travel luggage, founded in the early 1920s.
Another example of this trunk was sold by Sothebys in a special Rolex Memorabilia auction in 2019.
